The Gold Coast, Queensland, is certainly an interesting place to live. It’s the sixth largest and said to be the fastest growing city in Australia. It has the top three fastest growing suburbs in the country as well as record prices being smashed in ten Gold Coast suburbs in 2021. At this stage the demand shows no signs of slowing.

There is so much happening.  Many cranes which equate to new buildings on the horizon and new dreams becoming fulfilled. It seems more people want to come and live here than ever before. People from the cooler southern states of our country, many already have holiday apartments here, are now wishing to live here permanently in Queensland.  Who can blame them; certainly not me.

We are known as the Sunshine State with around 300 days of sunshine per year. I would much rather be warm than cold that’s for sure!

Where I live at Main Beach there are, at the moment as figures change rapidly, seven new buildings that are either being marketed, mostly high rise, about to be offered or waiting building approval and this is just this very small part of the coast. Of course there is opposition by some with people mostly worried about losing their views or extra traffic on the roads which is understandable.  I always say it’s either go up or go out and take up valuable land for building vast housing estates. We can never stop people wanting to share in what we have...even though many would like to try.

Homes are fetching very attractive prices never heard of before with often cash buyers approaching houses they like the look of and asking if the owners wants to sell.  I heard of one just recently where one owner was offered such an attractive price that he really couldn’t refuse. The only trouble is that now the property has sold, of course, he wants to buy somewhere else or maybe rent in the meantime while looking around for something suitable.  The only problem rental properties are often few and far between and the choice is somewhat limited. As always if you sell in an “up market” as this is the prices being asked are equally high. That’s where buyers from southern states are at an advantage with property prices so high in Sydney and Melbourne properties here are relatively cheap compared hence the demand here.

A year or so ago real estate agents had many properties from which to choose but now, at this moment in time, things just move so quickly with the market being as buoyant as it is, there is a shortage.

Plus we had the Commonwealth Games here on the coast in 2018 which I loved and attended many events. It was shown across the world to millions of viewers and the long term benefits are now being acknowledged. You cannot buy that kind of advertising..the beauty...the beaches and the bright clean air is always appealing to anyone from the northern climes. Also with this dreadful pandemic that is sweeping the world more and more Australians want to return home and they are also bringing their money with them.

There are some who wished things would remain the same but does anything ever remain the same? For a place like this to succeed it has to re invent itself. It must keep evolving to remain fresh and not become stale. The light rail will be a boost for the coast eventually going from the airport to Helensvale, connecting to the heavy rail and all stops in between. Running all the way along the coast I think it will be a great boon for all. Visitors arriving at the airport will board the no fuss light rail and stop off at their hotels along the way. Just one mode of travel quick and convenient.

There are certainly many magnificent homes here on the coast and so many choices. Waterfront on the river and room for a boat to acreage properties and attractive high rise apartments with ocean views.  I think apartments are good for those that wish to travel. Someone to look after the gardens and pool. Just lock the place up and usually there is security, as where I live, and you can relax not having to worry about what’s happening.... as in a house the first thing I think of is security.

So with more than 70 kilometres of golden sand, waves to catch, sun to soak up and seaside cafes and restaurants to enjoy who can blame them. It’s onward and upward as they say and I look forward to an even brighter Gold Coast future in the days ahead.
