Busy...Busy...Times..
We seem to be riding a never ending boom train of development here on the
Gold Coast, Queensland.
There have been booms and busts before but this time it seems to be
different. Maybe it’s the Covid-19 experience everyone is going through,
especially in the southern states of Australia, with their constant
“lockdowns’'” which I agree have to happen to save lives.
This virus has changed so many things world wide meaning a new way of
working from home for many. Why the need to live in a city when beach life is so
much better, no one can doubt that, and with three hundred days of sunshine a
year who needs a reason to live here!
There has to be, at least, maybe more than twenty new high rise apartments
either at planning stage, with the council awaiting approval or being
constructed now. It’s really quite amazing. So many Australians are returning
home..or trying to if the closed borders will let them that is.
I guess in times of trouble it feels safer to return home and be amongst
family, friends and things that are familiar. The things we know and trust to
always be there.
Of course, as I have mentioned before, there are those that do not want
anything new to be built and would love it to remain as it is/was but that never
happens and infrastructure is rushing to catch up with the boom.
The best part of it all is that many of the new apartments planned or under
construction are paid for up front. And I add they are not small one or two
bedroom ones either many people are choosing to live in large house size
apartments of three or four bedrooms or more. So these days there’s no need for
the developers to wait for so many enquiries and secure deposits to raise money
to build, as in previous booms, where people would buy on spec off
the plan and then to try to re-sell before or as the building was completed to
make a quick profit. This time it’s different and many builders are cashing in
on these boom times.
There are plenty of trades people to fill the jobs without the need for them to
travel farther afield to try to find work. It’s just the materials now that are
getting scarce. With so much “going on” building materials, it seems, are
running low and all the bits and pieces it takes to furnish an apartment ready
for sale...door knobs..fittings...the things we take for granted that are
manufactured overseas. And in these times of Covid-19 imports are slow or none
existent.
It has to end this boom one would think but while it does things are moving
ahead at lightening speed.
Anyone considering a move to the Gold Coast I think it’s best to get in
early...get in now...it can only become busier.
