Olympics...

Just loving the Olympics and spending far too much time watching it but why not indeed after all it’s only once every four years... or in this case its been five thanks to the Coronavirus.

Such a shame for Japan that it had to be delayed a whole year and everything printed with 2020 as well. It would, of course, be too expensive to change signage and that’s understandable but I do feel sorry that there are hardly any spectators due to this dreadful virus. The host country must be losing so much money through the loss of ticket sales as that surely is the most rewarding part. Television rights have been purchased around the world but it can’t be the same one would think.

The opening ceremony was spectacular, as they always are, but it lacked, once again, the many thousands that would have filled the stands in that huge and beautiful stadium and also would have added greatly to the atmosphere.

Among the colourful opening ceremony was the John Lennon song Imagine, which is as immortal as the man himself, and almost always brings me to tears when its played and sung with such emotion as it was by John Legend, Keith Urban, Angelique Kidjo, and Alejandro Sanz. It always means so much and with those beautiful words.

Above over 1,800 drones in the night sky created the Tokyo 2020 emblem and then, as if magically, transformed into a revolving globe high above. Just brilliant! Then the fireworks of course...what Olympics could there be without fireworks. Although I did read the ceremony was toned down, shortened, quite a lot this year which is understandable due to the circumstances.

As for the sports I can never get enough. Loving the swimming as always and appreciate the many long and tiring hours...years...it takes to be able to reach such a high standard for an event like this.

The funny thing is everyone suddenly becomes an expert at every sport when something like the Olympics are on...have you noticed that?

From the oldest lady of 66, Australian Mary Hanna, who competed in the horse dressage to a young 13 year old Yuto Horigome from Japan winning the first ever Gold Medal in skateboarding and this is only day three of the competitions...

I will be so tired after a couple of weeks but it’s worth it!!!
