Home Grown Problems...
This will be of no interest to anyone outside of Australia I know, and
these are just my thoughts, but I predict there "could" be a challenge to our
Prime Minister Morrison by years end. In my opinion it has been chaotic here the
past 18 months or so of this virus circulating.
Vaccines that were promised, for one reason or another, have not materialised. It was delayed from the
start and at the moment 18 months into this pandemic here in Australia only
around...depending who you listen to...between 5 and 9% of the population are
fully vaccinated. Way, way, below other countries. In fact we are somewhere near
the very bottom of the chart for full vaccinations. And we were doing so well at
the beginning and had such great expectations.
There have been 25 outbreaks from hotel quarantine..the 5th in the last
three months. Hotels were never meant to house returning people everyone states
that fact but they keep putting people there.
We have in Australia one quarantine facility at Howard Springs in the
Northern Territory. It is hoped to increase the numbers there soon but with at least 34,000 waiting to return home here from overseas this will take
a while, months, years, to get the numbers down.
From July 14 the weekly cap for entries will be halved to 3,035 as hotels
are bulging at the seams trying to manage as quarantine facilities for the two
weeks of isolation that is required.
We need more quarantine facilities...NOW...but it will still take at least
a year or so to build them which would cost far less than it’s costing to have these shut downs of the population with the virus constantly escaping from hotels.
This should have been done many months ago with a directive "from above".
I admit willingly I would not like the top job. Not that I'm even qualified or course! It’s like tennis players
once you are at the top there are always plenty snapping at your heals to “knock
you off the top perch” and take your job. But there does seem to have been a
failure here firstly with the vaccines and then with quarantines.
I really thought after the handling of our disastrous bush fire season last year a
challenge for the top job was in the wind back then. Just reading between the
lines on social media.
I guess we shall wait and see but social media is buzzing, as it does, and
as they say 'time and tide waits for no man'...not even a Prime Minister!
