I have this fascination when there’s a full moon, especially on a warm summers evening, to just stand and gaze in awe at its clear glowing brilliance and wonder how many others throughout the millennia have done the very same thing.

When by the ocean to see it rise majestically, silently, from the horizon is magic to me pure magic. To just sit on the beach and watch the show begin...and it’s free! Anyone can do it...but do many of us actually experience that?  I doubt it.  We are all too often caught up in the daily hustle and bustle of life and what’s on TV.

The moon so big, bright and mysterious has shone down to light the generations before us, that have done the same as I, and just stared almost hypnotised by its beauty.

From the times of ancient Egypt it shone down as they toiled building the pyramids however many thousands of years ago that was. Even experts cannot agree on a time frame for that. It shone down on dinosaurs eons of years before that. Biblical times when Jesus and his disciples walked the Earth...the many wars and the many happenings in history too numerous to count. Through war time and peace time the moon has shone its mysterious and calming glow. The good and the bad of humanity they have all looked up, no doubt, in the same wonderment as I. That one thought alone is truly fascinating. Don’t you think? I do...

It’s always been there never changing always illuminating.  It knows the secrets, has the knowledge and we just maybe look quickly..oh yes the moon...still there... often taking it for granted and not thinking twice.

As children we are taught about the “man in the moon” and “made of green cheese” and little green men in space and  strange things like that. No wonder we grow up confused. What that all means I have no idea!

My Mother always said it was a shame men landed on the moon on that day of July 20 1969 with that ‘one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind‘ saying it spoilt the mystery. I don’t know about that but it does make me always look in awe. I guess one day we will have a permanent base there on the moon a trajectory to more distant planets and even onwards to Mars. Will we eventually outgrow our planet Earth? Will we move on like some future Adam and Eve and start again. It is possible I guess...anything is possible! The plaque that was left there remains to this day that reads “Here men from the planet Earth first set foot upon the moon. July 1969 AD. We came in peace for all mankind.”

I hope and pray peace will certainly prevail in this world and in the days and years ahead for future generations to gaze in wonderment and awe just like I do. So next time there is a full moon and it is a clear and cloudless night just take a moment to look up....
