Before Social Media...

 Just got to thinking...

Back in the days before social media...which wasn't really that long ago..we had the threat of another form of  Coronavirus... SARS severe acute respiratory syndrome. In November 2002 this form of atypical pneumonia began spreading around the world in which the World Health Organisation declared it to be "a world wide heath threat."

It was scary...often in the news and no one knew exactly what to expect.

SARS was an airborne virus...the same as Covid-19 now. It was the first severe transmissible disease to emerge in the 21st century. Spread the same way the current pandemic is now by droplets of saliva, surfaces that have been touched by someone infected by the virus, and spread quickly around the world by international travel.

The illness spread to 29 countries where 8096 people caught it and 774 of those people died. Only eight people in the United States caught SARS and none of them died.

The SARS outbreak was contained in July 2003. Since 2004 there have not been any known cases of SARS reported anywhere in the world...until this current pandemic reared its head almost two years ago now. At that time health professionals and scientists worked together to successfully contain the outbreak world wide.

Today with the advent of social media and all the false and very often misleading information consumed by the masses, without even questioning its truth, people are often misled hence the current reluctance to take the drugs provided today to fight this current pandemic called Covid-19. 19 being the year it first came on to the scene2019 in Wuhun, China.

The conspiracy theorists have caused so much trouble with their misinformation, shared again and again on social media.

The current death toll is over five million people world wide and now the original virus has mutated into variations that are becoming harder to eradicate due to the reluctance of many to have the vaccine that is available thinking that it is some form of government control for some new world order!

I had the vaccination for SARS back in 2003 and I have again had the double vaccination for this current pandemic and due for a booster shot in January.

I'm not blaming social media for everything, of course, but the waters have been well and truly muddied by so many opinions of what is good and what is bad these days,

I urge everyone to speak to their health professional before reading/listening to anyone on the many strains of social media.
