Food Wastage...

Has anyone else noticed the amount of food wastage people leave on their plates?

As we sat down for coffee this morning the plates had yet to be cleared from previous customers. Just barely a bite taken from each!

I have noticed times, too numerous to even mention, where a snack is served with a salad on the side of the plate only for people to leave the salad altogether! It amazes me that people would eat...whatever..served with chips (french fries in the U.S.) eat the chips and leave the healthiest part of the meal...the salad...on the plate only to be thrown away. It's not just there for decoration it's there for nourishment.

The care and attention that someone has gone to to grow it..care for it..pick it and package it and send to market to be delivered to the shop only to end up in the rubbish bin. The farmer must be heartbroken if they only knew. Of course they would have been paid...most likely not enough...but paid all the same. But that's really not the point!

Just think of the precious water, time and fertilizer, it took to grow that salad. That ever decreasing water supply for many around the world that we all rely on to live and survive.

I remember growing up if I were to leave food on the plate at meal time I would be told of the starving children in Africa that they would be grateful for it. I would often think...so what! Guess times and thoughts change with age.

We only have to watch the evening news to see it isn't starving children in Africa now...but I guess they are still there of course and just as hungry...but there are so many hungry refugees fleeing from so many war zones it breaks my heart.

I could go off on so many different tangents talking of refugees and how sad it makes me but it was the sight of  wasted  food that annoyed me this morning.

I guess we have had it too good for too long maybe and many just don't care...don't think..don't even want to think. Sad really isn't it...and all this came from plates of food that hadn't been cleared this morning from the table we sat down at for our morning coffee. $30 worth of food..wraps..nothing at all wrong with the food as it's always of excellent quality it's just peoples thoughtlessness.

It's not the first time and it wont be the last where  food is left on the plate to be thrown away but people please if you don't want it...please don't even order itπŸ™

Think of those starving children in Africa....
