Ukraine...
What brave, brave, men these three are: The Prime Ministers of the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovenia are travelling to Kyiv, by train amongst almost continuous bombing, to show their solidarity with the Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The first foreign leaders to visit Kyiv since the invasion began. "They want to show their support for independence and freedom," the Czech Prime Minister said.
I am sure we all wish this terrible suffering and destruction will cease soon. It should never have begun in the first place due to one mans ego and quest for power. With over two million refugees fleeing the country mostly women, children and their belongings packed into a bag or suitcase it is truly heart breaking...truly.
A human rights group estimates that nearly 15,000 protesters have been detained in Russia at rallies since the invasion of Ukraine began on Feb 24.
Two dozen independent Russian media organisations have been forced to shut down or chosen to stop operations. Facebook/Twitter and Instagram have been blocked.
There is a feeling the tide may be turning...slowly...cracks may be showing in the tightly restricted news service which is Russian State television where one point of view is called a "Special Military Operation" nothing about the killing of civilians...nothing about an invasion...and definitely nothing about a war!
Yesterday a very brave journalist Marina Ovsyannikova from the state television held a poster for all to see while news was being broadcast. "Stop the war. Don't believe the propaganda. They are lying to you"
How brave was that! She was interrogated for 14 hours denied access to her lawyer and unable to contact family. Given a small fine she may still face a more serious penalty.
Under the countries so called "fake news" laws she could face up to 15 years in prison.
